South Montgomery County firefighter dies after cancer battle

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas – The South Montgomery County Fire Department announced Sunday one of their firefighters has died following a battle with cancer.

The department posted on Facebook honoring the life and legacy of Corby McKenzie.

“Corby exemplified bravery in the face of danger and demonstrated incredible strength throughout his battle with occupational cancer. Despite his formidable adversary, Corby remained steadfast, never wavering in his faith and commitment to duty or determination to overcome every obstacle. His unwavering courage in the face of adversity inspired us all and reminded us of the true meaning of heroism,” the department said.

The department extended their condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of McKenzie.

“In this time of mourning, let us extend our deepest condolences to Corby’s family, friends, and colleagues. May they find solace in the cherished memories they shared and comfort in the knowledge that Corby made a permanent mark on the world, leaving behind a legacy of bravery, compassion, and unwavering determination,” the department said.
