SAN JACINTO COUNTY, Texas – The San Jacinto County Office of Emergency Management announced a voluntary evacuation of Camilla Twin Harbor and Cedar Valley due to rising water from the Lake Livingston dam.
Most homes in nearby neighborhoods are not elevated. At the most, they sit on a few cinderblocks.
A shelter is open at 121 Live Oak Street in Coldspring.
Trinity River Authority is increasing the output over the spillways due to increased water coming into Lake Livingston. The current discharge is 78,273 cubic feet per second.
At around 70,000 cubic feet per second, the emergency management office starts to alert residents.
Polk County has also issued a voluntary evacuation order of the low lying areas along the Trinity River below the Lake Livingston Dam.
“Locally heavy rainfall along with increase in discharge from the dam could impact areas below the dam including roadways, impeding ingress and egress into subdivisions and residential areas,” the Polk County Office of Emergency Management said.
