‘I just didn’t want to sit at home’: Fans looking for a Texans win at Andre Johnson’s official watch party

HOUSTON, Texas – The Houston Texans just punched their ticket to the postseason for the first time since 2019.

With a 23-19 win over the Indianapolis Colts on Saturday, the Texans, led by their rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud.

To cheer the Texans to their win, former all-pro wide receiver Andre Johnson hosted the game’s “official watch party” at Southside Sporting Club in Stafford.

“It’s just an idea I came up with. I called one of my friends, one of the owner’s here at the bar,” Johnson said. “I just told him, ‘What do you think about doing a watch party for the game?’ He thought this was a great idea and we just kind of ran with it.”

Staff at the bar and restaurant say they had more than 800 reservations made for the watch party hosted by Johnson.

“I just didn’t want to sit at home and watch the game,” said Jessilyn Allen of Missouri City. “This is a way that we can all come together.”

A season ticket holder since 2002, she knows all about the ups and downs Texans fans have been through.

Surrounded by hundreds of fellow fans, the crowd erupted in cheer as the clock hit zero.

“What they’ve done to do, uh, through this season has really energized,” Johnson said. “I got people excited for going back to watching football.

The win earns the Texans a Wild Card berth.
