Man arrested for possibly starting SW Houston apartment fire while family member with disability was inside

HOUSTON – A man was arrested on Monday for possibly starting an apartment fire in southwest Houston while his family member with a disability was trapped inside, according to the Houston Fire Department.

Firefighters responded to the scene in the 7200 block of Hillcroft Avenue at about 11:06 p.m.

They received reports that there was a man with a disability inside and other victims.

First responders arrived and found the first and second floors of the apartment engulfed in flames. They went inside and rescued the victim.

He had burns and suffered smoke inhalation. He was later taken to a local hospital.

Firefighters did not find any other people inside.

Officials did not find anyone else inside the complex.

Firefighters said the fire started after a family got into an argument, and a man was arrested at the scene.

HFD also had some issues fighting the fire because one of the fire hydrants in the area was not working.

Arson officials are investigating what led to the fire.
