Officials have not identified the deputy, but other agencies have expressed their condolences, including Harris County Precinct 4 Constable Mark Herman.

“Our hearts are heavy as we mourn the loss of a Montgomery County Sheriff’s Deputy who was tragically killed last night while working a crash scene on Interstate 45,” Herman said.

KPRC 2 is working to learn the condition of other deputies involved.

A Houston TranStar traffic incident alert lists I-45 northbound at Woodlands Parkway and Robinson Road in Montgomery County as a hazmat spill. TranStar reports impacts to all main lanes, the left and right shoulders, and also the opposing left shoulder and two opposing main lanes.

This is a developing story and will be updated as more information is released.
