Person found fatally shot in back after car crashes into pole in northeast Houston

HOUSTON – Houston police are investigating after a person was found with a gunshot wound following a vehicle crash early Sunday, near Mesa Drive and Nyssa Street in northeast Houston.

According to HPD, officers responded around 1:40 a.m. after reports that a car had struck a pole. A security guard at nearby apartments under construction reported hearing a loud crash followed by gunfire. HPD homicide detectives said the victim was found with a gunshot wound to the back.

Investigators have not identified a suspect or suspect vehicle. It remains unclear whether the victim was being followed before the shooting or what led to the violence. The investigation remains ongoing.
