Barbers Hill HS classes canceled due to power outage after transformer nearby caught fire

Barbers Hill ISD battles local county health authority regarding reopening

MONT BELVIEU, Texas – School district officials said they have canceled classes at Barbers Hill High School for Wednesday, Sept. 13 due to a transformer catching on fire nearby.

According to Mont Belvieu Fire Department, the transformer is located behind the school.

The fire was reportedly put out quickly, however, the campus remained without power.

Students and staff who were inside the building were evacuated, and there were no reported injuries.

The cause of the transformer fire is under investigation. No foul play is suspected.

For students who are on campus, BHISD is arranging bus transportation for students to return home.
