City of Houston to open 3 facilities as cooling centers Sunday and Monday

HOUSTON – The city of Houston will be opening two multi-service centers and a community center on Sunday and Monday as cooling centers for people without air conditioning to take refuge from the heat.

According to the city, the centers opening from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday and Monday are:

  • Acres Homes Multi-Service Center, 6719 W. Montgomery Rd.
  • Sunnyside Health and Multi-Service Center, 4410 Reed Rd., and
  • Moody Community Center, 3725 Fulton St.

The city also said the YMCA of Greater Houston will also open its locations as cooling centers over the weekend.

The National Weather Service predicts heat index values will reach as high as 113 through Monday.

People without adequate transportation to a City of Houston designated cooling center can call 3-1-1 to request a free ride. Transportation is only to and from the city cooling centers; transportation to other locations is unavailable.
