HOUSTON – Adorable in some eyes, deplorable in others, the sturdy, push-faced, perky-eared French bulldog has become Houston’s most most sought-after puppy in 2022, the American Kennel Club announced Wednesday.

“The love for Frenchie’s is real in Houston,” said AKC executive secretary Gina DiNardo. “The playful, adaptable breed has been the top dog in the city since 2018 and shows no signs of slowing down.”

For centuries, French bulldogs have made great companion dogs, with their friendly demeanor that’s suitable for a single person or families with children. These loving dogs are usually well-behaved around other animals and visitors, often looking for an open lap to cuddle on. Last year, about 108,000 newly registered French bulldogs surpassed Labs by over 21,000, the AKC notes on its website.
