Congressman Al Green addresses Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, announces measures to aid Houston’s Ukrainian community

HOUSTON – Congressman Al Green held a press conference with the Consul General of Ukraine, and the president of the Ukrainian American Cultural Club of Houston, addressing Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and announcing measures to aid the Ukrainian community at home and abroad. Green sent a letter to President Joe Biden asking for the government to send Ukraine ammunition, hardware, and fuel.

”Babies ought not find themselves waking up one morning with missiles and bombs landing in their yards,” Green said. ”Remember Ukraine had an agreement with a promise. We have to honor the promise. They surrendered their nuclear weapons, we ought to honor our commitment to provide them with protection in a time of need such as this.”

Green is also asking for financial support and humanitarian help from the U.S. government but says he not asking for the general public to get involved at this point.

Consul General of Ukraine, Vitalii Tarasiuk applauded and thanked Green and the U.S. for its assistance and says he wants the strongest sanctions possible.

”We have to disconnect Russia from the global world, so they can feel the pain for their aggression,” Tarasiuk said.
