Catalytic converter theft suspect caught after wild chase by car, scooter and swim through Houston bayou

Officers say pursuit included multiple escape attempts across land, road and water

HOUSTON – A suspected catalytic converter thief is in custody after what Houston police described as a chaotic pursuit involving a vehicle chase, an electric scooter, a foot chase and even a swim through Little White Oak Bayou.

According to Houston Police Department, officers from multiple different branches of the department worked together to track down the suspect Thursday.

Authorities said the suspect initially fled in a vehicle before abandoning it and attempting to escape on an electric scooter.

The chase continued on foot before the suspect jumped into Little White Oak Bayou in an apparent attempt to evade officers.

Despite the unusual escape efforts, police said coordinated teamwork between ground units, K9 officers and aerial support ultimately led to the suspect’s arrest.

Authorities have not yet released the suspect’s identity or the charges they may face.

The incident remains under investigation.
