Deputy accidentally shot at Brazoria County gun range, officials say

ANGLETON, Texas – A Brazoria County deputy was accidentally shot Friday at a gun range used by the Sheriff’s Office for training, officials said.

According to Brazoria County officials, the deputy is a firearms instructor and he was shot in the stomach when a round accidentally discharged from a student’s weapon.

Officials said the 30-year-old deputy suffered a deep flesh wound and was flown to Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston for treatment. His injuries were not life-threatening and he is in stable condition, officials said. He is expected to be released Friday evening.

The identity of the injured deputy was not immediately released.

The incident is under investigation.
