Officials at HPD and with the Harris County District Attorney’s Office told KPRC 2 Investigates that there is no charge for road rage shootings. Typically, these calls are logged under an aggravated assault with a deadly weapon or homicide.

Then, under the “aggravating facts,” if a witness says it’s a road rage shooting, it will be listed there. This is similar to drive-by shootings.

HPD’s new Versaterm Public Safety System is expected to total $31.1 million.

They hope to have the system live by March of 2025, but will be utilizing it as they work out the kinks.
