Interested in volunteering? In need of volunteers? Here's where you can sign up

Over 5K people register to volunteer since Saturday

HOUSTON – Volunteer Houston has launched a virtual volunteer reception center to help coordinate those interested in volunteering, as well as nonprofits and other agencies who are in need of volunteers.

As Houston deals with the aftermath of Tropical Storm Harvey, there is expected to be a tremendous outpouring of interest in volunteering to help with the city's recovery efforts.

Points of Light, which Volunteer Houston is an affiliate of, said it is critical people who would like to volunteer are well-coordinated and accounted for to achieve maximum impact. All volunteers are requested to be registered with the Volunteer Reception Center or a volunteer agency.

In addition, organizations and other agencies that are in need of volunteers need to register to ensure effective matching and support, Diane Quest, with Points of Light, said.

More than 5,000 people have registered to become volunteers since last Saturday.
