Man charged in Patton Village house fire where body was found in trash can

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas – Man charged in Montgomery County house fire where a man's body was found in a nearby trash can, officials said.

East Montgomery County firefighters were sent to put out fire Wednesday at a house on South Lakeview in the city of Patton Village.

Investigators asked for the public's help locating the last known occupants in the house, Aaron Phillips and Jason Gilbert. Both were living at the home and were last seen there in the hours leading up to the fire, authorities said.

Aaron Phillips, 30, who was sought in connection with the house fire was arrested Friday, according to Montgomery County Jail records.

He has been charged with arson.

Late Thursday afternoon, detectives discovered the body stuffed in a trash can behind an abandoned house across the street from the fire.

Investigators identified the body as that of Gilbert, 37.

Phillips is being held in the Montgomery County Jail on a $150,000 bail.
