Chambers County residents allowed to return home

ANAHUAC, Texas – Residents of Chambers County who were forced to evacuate during Hurricane Harvey are allowed to return to their homes Tuesday, officials said.

Voluntary evacuations were ordered last week for parts of the county as floodwaters started to rise.

Officials said Tuesday that volunteer groups are working throughout the county to help homeowners with limited demolition and cleaning. For more information, residents should call 409-267-2445.

A shelter remains open at the Eagle Heights Fellowship, located at 14120 Highway 146 in Dayton.

Residents are reminded that debris must be separated into four piles and should be placed at the end of your road off the shoulder. Piles are:

• Carpets, building materials, furniture, wood
• Metal, appliances, bed frames
• Household trash and garbage needs to be sacked in separate bag and pile
• Yard debris, trees

Debris pick up will begin Thursday. Collection stations are open seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
