CLEAR LAKE, Texas – Police are investigating after they say a man found a human skull while walking through a wooded area in Clear Lake.
According to authorities, the discovery happened around 11:30 p.m. Monday on Highway 3 near Clear Lake City Boulevard.
The man, who had been walking in the area, told police he entered the woods to use the bathroom when he found what looked to be a human skull, police said.
Michael, the man who found the remains, said he knew he had to call police.
"I couldn't let it weigh on my mind no more," Michael said. "Those remains belong to somebody, and somebody deserves to know."
Upon further investigation, officers confirmed the skull was human.
Crime scene investigators are canvassing the area to see if there are any more human remains nearby, authorities said.
According to a news release, police are waiting for autopsty results. The victim's gender, identity and cause of death have not yet been released.
"We're going to have a team come out here and they are going to search the woods to see if that's the only human bones we can find," said Lt. Larry Crowson, with the Houston Police Department.
