Woman charged in deadly 4-vehicle crash on Katy Freeway

HOUSTON – A woman suspected of drunken driving was charged in a deadly accident that shut down part of the Katy Freeway on Saturday morning.

Sheila Michelle Brown, 33, was charged with intoxication manslaughter with a vehicle.

Houston police said at least four vehicles were involved in the wreck near the Studemont Street exit around 3:30 a.m.

Brown was driving a red Toyota Camry eastbound on the Katy Freeway when it struck a blue Mazda 3, police said. The Camry then struck a tractor-trailer truck that was stopped to a prior crash and the Mazda struck a white GMC Canyon, police said.

Brown attempted to run from the scene but was detained by responding patrol officers. The driver of the Mazda was pronounced dead at the scene.

Brown was taken to Memorial Hermann with minor leg injuries. She was determined to be intoxicated and was charged for her role in the crash. Brown is being held at the Harris County Jail on a $60,000 bail.
