Woman, 70, killed, another injured in 2-vehicle crash in southwest Houston

HOUSTON – A woman was killed Saturday night after a car failed to yield at a stop sign and crashed into another vehicle, officials said.

The accident was reported at 7:02 p.m. in the 4900 block of West Bellfort Avenue.

Houston police said the 70-year-old woman died at the scene. Police said the victim was driving a silver Lexus ES 350 sedan southbound on Balmforth Lane and stopped at a stop sign at the intersection of West Bellfort. Police said the victim entered the intersection, failing to yield the right of way to the driver of a white Nissan Maxima traveling westbound, and the Lexus was struck by the Nissan.

The 20-year-old driver of the Nissan was taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital.
