HOUSTON – A man was killed after his SUV burst into flames following an accident in northwest Houston.

According to police, the crash happened on the feeder road near the Kempwood Exit of the West Sam Houston Tollway going northbound around 6:40 a.m. Monday.

Officers said J. Santos Loera, 51, lost control of his SUV and sideswiped another vehicle before veering off the road into a parking lot where he hit four other cars.

Upon impact, Loera's SUV caught on fire, trapping him inside, police said. A good Samaritan was able to get Loera out of the vehicle, but it was too late.

The Houston Fire Department pronounced him dead when they arrived.

Police are still investigating to determine whether Loera had been drinking or was under the influence.
