Man found shot to death in parking garage at west Houston apartment complex

HOUSTON – A man was found shot to death inside the parking garage of an apartment complex in west Houston early Tuesday morning.

Police said Sam Kyle James, 31, was found shot in the head in the parking garage of the apartments on Dairy Ashford near Memorial at around midnight.

"It's pretty frightening because I have a small daughter that resides with us on the first floor, and obviously, bullets, there's some that penetrate walls," resident Billy Gutierrez said.

For hours, homicide investigators collected evidence. Multiple shell casings could be seen on the ground.

Police said James lived at the Domain West Luxury Apartments with his girlfriend and that James told her he was meeting someone in the garage before the shooting.

"It's easy for just anyone to just drive in or walk in from the delay of the gates," resident Cristina Renteria said.

It was unknown if the person James was meeting found their own way inside, if they lived there or if James let them in.

"Obviously, it's someone who knows somebody who has access," resident Kristina Coronado said.

Residents are hoping for answers.

"That can put families' lives at risk. Wow, that's pretty scary," Gutierrez said.

Police said the apartment complex had surveillance cameras and they were looking at the video.

Investigators do not have a motive.
