Mother, stepfather identified in murder-suicide that also injured girl
HOUSTON – A man and a woman were killed Sunday and a child was injured in an apparent murder-suicide in west Houston, according to police.
The shooting was reported about 11:15 a.m. in the 7900 block of Corporate Drive.
Police said the mother of four children, identified as Jessica Morales, 31, and the stepfather, identified as Wilson Bautista, were up all night partying. Police said Morales went to the bathroom to take a shower and Bautista walked in behind her and fatally shot her one time.
Police said Bautista shot himself in the chest. That bullet went through him and the bathroom door before grazing the Morales' 8-year-old daughter.
Police said the children, including the 8-year-old girl, ran to a neighbor's apartment and called 911.
Neighbor Marco Rivera told KPRC that he didn't hear the gunshots at the apartment complex, but answered when he heard muffled cries and someone pounding at his front door.
“They were screaming," Rivera said. "'The girl got shot! The girl got shot!'"
He said that he called 911 to get help for the child who had been wounded, and tried to comfort her siblings.
“She was grabbing her side," he said, “I grabbed her and made (her) put a lot of pressure, as much as possible."
The girl was taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Update: Blessedly, child’s wounds appear to be non-life-threatening. She is being treated at an area hospital.— Houston Police (@houstonpolice) April 29, 2018
