1 dead in 2 separate crashes at NE Harris County scene

HOUSTON – Harris County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to two crashes at one scene early Sunday.

The first crash happened around 2 a.m. at the intersection of Farm-to-Market 1960 and Aldine Westfield Road in northeast Harris County. Investigators said a sedan traveling westbound on FM 1960 approached the intersection of FM 1960 and Aldine Westfield Road and came to a stop. A speeding truck struck the sedan from behind, killing the driver of that sedan, investigators said.

The impact from the crash spun the car into the intersection and split the sedan into two parts, deputies said. 

Two other passengers were inside the vehicle and were transported to an area hospital to be treated for their injuries, investigators said. Their conditions are unknown.

Deputies said the driver of the truck exited his vehicle while talking on his phone. He was picked up by another motorist and was driven away from the scene.

Witnesses told investigators that the driver of the pickup appeared intoxicated and had slurred speech. 

While tow trucks were on scene, another white SUV crashed into the tow truck. The SUV driver appeared to be intoxicated and was hospitalized, investigators said.

Deputies said the driver of the pickup truck is described as a Hispanic male, 5 feet 9 inches to 6 feet 2 inches tall and 150-170 pounds. He was wearing a white T-shirt.

Deputies said they are working to learn more about this crash.
