Reported kidnapping attempt leaves Cypress neighborhood on edge

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – Parents and children in a Cypress subdivision are on edge after a 16-year-old girl said she was kidnapped at knifepoint.

It happened Sunday afternoon in Coles Crossing at the intersection of Closewood Terrace Boulevard and Ashland Landing Drive.

The girl told Harris County Sheriff's Office deputies a man driving a black Ford F-150 pulled in front of her and stopped.

He got out and asked her for directions and then lifted his shirt to reveal a large knife in a sheath.

The teen said the man threatened to kill her if she didn't get in the truck.

She complied with his commands and they drove off but she jumped out of the truck when he came to a stop a short time later.

"She looked like she was terrified," said 13-year-old Luke Simmons, who spotted the girl as he was riding his bike in the area that day.

"Someone tried to kidnap me and kill me," Simmons said the girl told him as she banged on people's doors, asking for help.

The girl described the kidnapper as a heavyset, middle-aged white man with short brown hair and a deep voice.

Deputies are asking residents to check their surveillance footage for any additional clues that might help them find the man.

Crime Stoppers is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to his arrest.
