Teen who drowned in Brazos River near Richmond identified

RICHMOND, Texas – Authorities on Tuesday identified the teen who drowned while swimming Monday in the Brazos River near Richmond.

Aleksea Holman, 16, of Richmond, was swimming with a group of friends about 7 p.m. when the he began to struggle and went under the water, investigators said. They said Holman's friends tried to help him.

Once he separated from his friends, the teen resurfaced about 50 yards away, but then went underwater again. He came back up once more before not being seen again.

Crews began searching for Holman, and called off the search about 10:30 p.m. after finding a body.

Police said is is not safe to swim in the river.
