Memorial Hermann CEO steps down after year on job
HOUSTON – Dr. Benjamin Chu, president and CEO of the Memorial Hermann Health System, has stepped down after a year on the job, officials at the hospital system said.
Chu was named head of one of the largest hospital systems in the Houston region in March 2016.
Officials said Chu has decided to leave Memorial Hermann to pursue his passion in health and public policy.
"With the current state of the healthcare industry, I can think of no better time for a champion like Dr. Chu to help lead public policy efforts," said Memorial Hermann Health System Board chair Deborah Cannon in a written statement. "We thank him for his service and wish him the very best in his future endeavors."
Charles Stokes, the company’s executive vice president and COO, has been named as the interim president and CEO.
Stokes, who is a registered nurse, joined Memorial Hermann in 2008, and he has more than 40 years of experience in the health care field.
