Thieves smash into Alvin gun store, steal several guns

HOUSTON – Several guns were stolen Wednesday from a gun store in Alvin.

Police said four thieves used a stolen truck to rip the door off of R&G Guns in the 200 block of West Coombs Street around 1:30 a.m. and got away with multiple weapons.

Investigators said the men were inside the store for less than an minute and 15 to 17 AR-15s and handguns were taken.

The owner said no ammunition was taken.

Police said they do not have a description of the men.

The stolen truck was found across the street from the store, police said.

Police said the thieves stole the truck from a nearby apartment building, just before the burglary.

“I guess they jumped out of the truck after they pulled the door off and just let the truck take off rolling. It was running when I went to go pick my truck up,” said owner Howard Smith.

The truck hit a brick column. The thieves jumped into another car and took off.

The owner said he's owned the gun shop for 10 years. R&G Guns was also burglarized in January 2016.

The thieves in that case were arrested and the guns were recovered.
