Selena festival keeps 'Queen of Tejano' legacy alive

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The Selena festival, also known as Fiesta de la Flor, is being held Friday and Saturday at North Bayfront Park in Corpus Christi.

The festival, which celebrates the life and legacy of Selena Quintanilla, the “Queen of Tejano,” begins at 5:30 p.m. on Friday and at noon on Saturday.

According to the festival’s website, the annual event serves as a tribute to her, as well as to the cultural contributions Tejano music has made worldwide.

Emmy Award-winner Jackie Guerra, who played Suzette in the “Selena” film, and Jackie Cruz, of the hit show “Orange Is The New Black” will make an appearance at the festival. The Madame Tussauds Hollywood Selena wax figure will also be on display.
