Man accused of sexually assaulting mother appears in court; denied bail

HOUSTON – Bryce Scott, 42, was charged Friday morning with aggravated sexual assault. Scott was arrested in the Memorial area Thursday after he broke into a woman's apartment and sexually assaulted her in front of her children, police said.

The judge denied Scott bond because he has four previous felony convictions.

Police said Scott was armed when he broke into the home and forced the woman to undress in front of her 10- and 7-year-old children, then sexually assaulted her.

"She was able to hand her phone off to her kids and told them in Arabic to call the police," Sgt. Reginald Porter said.

Porter said Houston police responded to the apartment complex, on Bateswood off Memorial Drive. When they arrived, the naked Scott ran towards a school.

"He heard the commotion at the door and ran out the back door without any clothes on," Porter said.

Officials said Scott ran approximately 40 yards and hid under a truck until he was found by police.

Scott was found and arrested and faced a pending charge of aggravated sexual assault. He sat in jail Thursday afternoon. No one answered at his apartment door Thursday afternoon, although there were children inside the apartment.

Porter said Scott lives in the apartment complex and his children play with the victim's children.

A neighbor who is a single mother of two boys said she is shocked.

"They always always tell us 'know your neighbors' but do you really know your neighbors?" said neighbor Andria Perez.

Although Scott is in custody, other neighbors said they'll be on heightened alert.

"That was disturbing because I have daughters. I am glad they were asleep," said resident Brandon Hatcher. "I just pray for the family that wasn't as fortunate."

Police said the woman, from Iran, is a single mother who lives in the United States.

They said she is distraught and will go to a hospital for evaluation.
