What's brewing in Houston: Brash Brewing Company

HOUSTON – “Unapologetic,” is not the only style of beer from Brash Brewing Company, but it’s also the personality of one of Houston’s most unique craft breweries.

“We’re kinda in your face. We make two styles of beer, big and hoppy and big, dark and strong. If you don’t like ‘em -- you can go elsewhere” bartender Adam Sandoval said.

Brash Brewing Company, which first opened in Oct. 2015, prides itself on being loud in both their image and beer. The warehouse not only is the backdrop for their mostly hyper-local production, but also houses their taproom.

While they present plenty of space for patrons to sit and have a pint or several, they also have a row of vintage stand-up video games that allows gamers to turn back the clock to when they would plunk down quarter after quarter, although here, they can do it with a strong IPA or stout.

In addition, as their name indicates, the jukebox continues the “in your face,” theme as most of the selections are brewer’s pick of death metal tunes.

While their rough-around-the-edges persona may push away some casual beer fans, Sandoval said they actually have had to increase some of their production because the demand has been so great.

At the heart of this brewery is the belief that they are a part of the Houston craft beer community and it’s important to stay local. Their main lineup of beers is very hop-forward -- strong, dark ales with high alcohol content and unforgettable names that fit within a bare-knuckled brewery.

Brash is open Thursday through Sunday and is at 508 Crosstimbers Rd. at north of 610 Freeway.
