TOMBALL, Texas – Two women from Houston said they can't believe what they found inside their car after having it repaired at Beck & Masten Kia dealership.
Heather Plummer and Stacy Skarritt said they took their 2012 Kia Optima to the dealership on Nov. 26.
After having a new engine installed 46 days later, Plummer and Skarritt said they got the car back and found a loaded handgun lying in the center console-- a gun that they said wasn’t there before.
"I opened my console to put some papers away and I found a loaded gun in my car. I mean I was just flabbergasted,” Plummer said.
"I could have had a child in the car and what if he found it and mishandled it and killed himself or someone else. This could have been a fatal situation,” Skarritt said.
Plummer and Skarritt said when they called the dealership for an explanation, the acting general manager told them a mechanic from the service department had taken their car home one night and left his gun in the car by accident.
Stunned and angry, the women said they filed a police report and turned the gun over to the Harris County Sheriff's Department.
Beck & Masten dealership officials said Saturday no one had the time to speak about the incident.
