HOUSTON – Three words tweeted out Sunday are causing some controversy at the Houston Independent School District.
"This must've been what it felt like before the civil rights act, where you just don't know what your rights are going to be," District IV Trustee Jolanda Jones said.
Jones posted the words "Trump is Hitler 2.0!" expressing her opinion and deep concern over the President-elect.
"I will continue to speak out, against that racist, sexist, xenophobic, Islamophobic and every other phobic you can find," Jones said.
She adds that she is outraged by the election results, and doesn't care who knows, and says her mission is to support her students.
"We had kids coming to school afraid that their parents would be deported, and they would come home and wouldn't have families and would be by themselves," Jones said.
Jones cites freedom of speech as the platform for her opinion, but some parents in her district say it's inappropriate.
"That's just inciting riots or just inciting people. That's bad taste, that's really not democracy at it's work," Darren Rogers said.
Others say they agree with the Jones's opinion, but add that it could've been stated differently.
"She could've said it a little better because you know of her title, but other than that, I feel like it was fair," Desiree Stewart said.
We reached out to HISD for a response, but the district would not comment, saying the tweet was on Jones's personal Twitter account.
