Man accused of stealing intellectual property from Houston Fortune 500 company

HOUSTON – The FBI is asking for the public's help in identifying a man accused of breaking into a Houston Fortune 500 company twice.

Authorities said he wasn't after money or jewels, but something potentially even more valuable -- intellectual property.

Security cameras recorded the man breaking into the corporate headquarters, located in the Energy Corridor, twice last year.

The first time, in June 2015, he left the building with a backpack and a courier bag stuffed with items that agents identified as valuable intellectual property belonging to the company.

He came back again in December 2015 and managed to get into the lobby, but not into the offices. He stole a security radio as he left the building, the FBI said.

The man is described as white, around 40 years old, about 5 feet 9 inches tall, with a medium build and dark hair.

The FBI said the man had a noticeable tic or upper-body twitching of his head, neck, shoulders and arms that was visible in surveillance video.

In the June theft, he had facial stubble and a goatee, and he was wearing a light-colored, long-sleeved, collared shirt, tie, khaki pants, a dark green baseball cap and black athletic shoes with orange markings.

During the December theft, the man was clean-shaven and wore a light gray, long-sleeved, collared shirt, khaki pants, a tan baseball cap and black athletic shoes.

Reporter Phil Archer spoke with one of the agents involved in the search for the man. We'll have that interview and more on this story Tuesday on KPRC 2 News.
