PEARLAND, Texas –
Intoxication manslaughter charges have been filed against Amber Willemsen, 38, after she reportedly caused an accident that killed a Pearland police officer on Sunday morning.
Ekpanya was driving down FM 518 en route to a non-emergency call when Willemsen's gray Chrysler SRT crossed several middle lanes near Liberty Drive. Investigators said Willemsen's vehicle hit Ekpanya's vehicle head-on, pinning both drivers in their cars.
Ekpanya was airlifted to Memorial Herman Hospital, where he later died.
Willemsen was also taken to Memorial Herman with minor injuries. She will be booked into jail after she is released from the hospital.
Willemsen was an assistant principal in the Clear Creek Independent School District until 2012.
This is not Willemsen's first run-in with the law. On New Year's Eve in 2011, she was arrested for driving while intoxicated with a blood-alcohol content above .15. She is also facing felony charges of possession of a controlled substance stemming from an arrest in May.
Endy Epankya had been with the Pearland Police Department since 2015.
The Pearland Police Department performed an Escort of Honor later that afternoon in memoriam of Ekpanya.
