Arrest made in case of missing man found dead near burned vehicle

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas – A man was arrested in Indiana in the case of a man found dead near a burned vehicle in Montgomery County.

Deputies found the body of 28-year-old Marc Pourner Jr. on Saturday in the area of Firetower Road near FM 1485. Investigators determined his death was a homicide.

Detectives identified the suspect as David James Brown Jr., who has been charged with capital murder.

Brown, 22, was located in Lafayette, Indiana, and was taken into custody without incident.

Family, friends and some Montgomery County sheriff's deputies gathered for a candlelight vigil Wednesday night to remember Pourner.

"I'm ecstatic there's an arrest made. Now I want to be attending a trial and shortly after that I want to be attending an execution," said Mark Pourner, Marc's father.

Pourner said his son and Brown were acquaintances and had friends in common but didn't know each other directly.

He has his theories about why his son was killed but doesn't want to elaborate in fear of jeopardizing the investigation.

He did tell KPRC his son was an openly gay man and he wonders if that had something to do with his death.

"That very well may be an aspect of the crime," Pourner said without elaboration.

Pourner's parents said they plan to start a scholarship fund in their son's name for LGBT students who want to go to college.

The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office is asking anyone with information to call the Major Crimes Unit at 936-760-5876 or Montgomery County Crime Stoppers.
