WEBSTER, Texas – Several cats are recovering after being mutilated in a Webster neighborhood, leaving their owners horrified. One owner, who spoke to KPRC 2, is now trying to spread the word to other cat owners in the area.
"It terrifies me to think there could be a potential serial killer in the neighborhood out here," said Cecilia Morgan, the owner of one of the injured cats.
Morgan is trying to figure out what or who is responsible for a giant gash on her cat's stomach.
"I think somebody tried to skin her," Morgan said.
The 1-year-old cat, Cleo, is recovering at Nasa Pet Hospital. She has about 20 staples running from her back to her stomach. Morgan said it happened when Cleo went missing for a few days in July.
"One of the dogs decided they wanted to go out and she slipped past me," said Morgan.
Morgan said she eventually found Cleo, hiding underneath an old hot tub in the yard. When she picked her up, Morgan noticed the cut. When she contacted the Piper's Meadow Home Owners Association, she said they told her this wasn't the first case of cat mutilation in the neighborhood.
"Two months ago, she said, one of the neighbors near the front of the complex had found another cat that had been cut in half," Morgan said.
Now Morgan is trying to get the word out to her neighbors.
"My main concern that there could be somebody in the neighborhood that is doing this and this really scares me because we have a lot of kids in the neighborhood," said Morgan.
