Police find 66 pounds of cocaine on Galveston beach

GALVESTON, Texas – The Galveston Police Department said that more than 66 pounds of cocaine washed ashore May 25.

Galveston police said they received a call from the Galveston Island Beach Patrol about a suspicious package that had washed ashore west of the 33rd Street jetty.

Investigators said they confirmed the package contained cocaine in 30 individually wrapped packages.

Police said the packaging of the drugs had a dolphin logo, which could indicate that the drugs belonged to the Gulf Cartel.

Investigators said the bulk value of the cocaine is $855,000, but it could have a street value of more than $3.5 million.

Drugs have washed ashore six times in the past week, and this is the second instance that it was cocaine, according to the Galveston Police Department.
