26-year-old charged with shooting, killing parents at SW Houston home

HOUSTON – A 26-year-old is charged with shooting and killing his parents in their bedroom in southwest Houston.

Houston police said Kenneth Balinas was arrested and charged with capital murder.

He is accused of killing Oscar E. Ballinas, 55, and Eva A. Ballinas, 50, at their home in the 3100 block of Tidewater near Townwood Drive around 2 a.m. Wednesday.

"You know.  It's ... I don't know.  I don't know any problems they have," said Fausto Alamirra, Eva Ballinas' brother. "But it's my sister and I love my sister."

Three other adults and the victims' two young granddaughters were inside the home, but physically unharmed.

Police said when they arrived, Kenneth Ballinas was waiting on the curb near the driveway. HPD said he told officers he shot his parents while they were in bed.

Ballinas was in the Harris County Jail Wednesday night with no bond.
