HOUSTON – The Potato Express is a microwave potato cooker, and although it normally takes about 7 minutes to nuke your spuds, this product claims to do it in 4.
The cooker costs about $9.99 and says it can fit 4 potatoes at a time.
It was definitely a tight squeeze for the spuds, and then we noticed the directions on the pouch said 4 potatoes takes 6 minutes, not 4.
The instructions say to cook in increments of 4 or less. After the first 4 they were still very hard inside. Then we tried another 2 minutes, followed by 4 more, totaling 10.
We were able to cut the baked potatoes but some had crunchy and hard spots.
We dressed them up with sour cream, cheese, and other toppings and called in some co-workers for the real test.
Some said the potatoes tasted done, while others said they would add a little hot sauce to make it perfect.
Three of the potatoes cooked just right, but a fourth needed a little more time.
Therefore, we give the Potato Express a thumbs down.
The amount of time you have to cook the potatoes varies on the wattage of your microwave. But even at the lowest wattage, the Potato Express says it could cook the potatoes in 8 minutes, that just wasn't true in our case.
