Local 2 viewers help family burglarized Christmas Eve

Viewers get in touch with family whose TV, presents were stolen

HOUSTON – Very giving Local 2 viewers saw a story about a family burglarized on Christmas Eve and decided to help the family in need.

The Rojas family's apartment was ransacked Dec. 24 -- their TV was stolen and their presents were gone too. Luis Rojas' wife is expecting a baby very soon.

The Ortega family saw the story Local 2 ran Thursday and asked us to help put them in touch with the Rojas family so they could bring them diapers and some holiday cash.

"Something told me in my heart to go and bless that couple and, you know, the Holy Spirit, that's what got me," Jesse Ortega said.

His wife, Janice Ortega, and her son, Ulyses Silva, gathered money from family members and used some of their own funds. They gathered more than $200.

They met with the Rojas family Friday morning to deliver some holiday cheer. They taped the meeting, where Luis Rojas said meeting and talking to the family meant more than the gifts.

"I want to say thank you. I can't believe there are people like this is this world," Luis Rojas said. "It's not all about the gifts. Just being here talking to us changed our lives completely and made us believe even more that God exists. Amen."

The Ortega family said their faith in God is what helped them realize they could step in and help a family in need.
