Language survey puts out list of 25 'must know' words for toddlers

No description found

Scientists have complied a list of 25 words your child should know by the time he or she is 2 years old.

The Language Development Survey's list of must-know words do include commonalities such as "mommy" and "daddy," but also includes words like "ball," "juice" and "hot."

An article in the Daily Mail quotes the survey's designer, professor Leslie Rescorla, as saying, "If children don't use most of these words by 24 months, they may be late talkers."

Rescorla says many late-talkers are simply late bloomers and that if the child is developing normally otherwise, parents shouldn't panic.

If the slowness continues to their third birthday, it might help to visit a speech therapist.
