Demand Sticker On Door Likely Scam

OAK RIDGE NORTH, Texas – Homeowners have been finding "final demand" notices on the homes, and investigators said it appears to be a scam to lure people into handing over their personal information.

The orange stickers have been spotted in the town of Oak Ridge North near The Woodlands.

The sticker hints that a homeowner could end up in jail if they don't call a phone number written on it.

"I had a feeling it was a scam when I first saw it," said a homeowner who asked that his identity not be revealed.

The man said his wife found the sticker plastered on their front door after someone knocked on their door at 8 p.m.

The sticker reads that it's from Harris County, has a hand-written case number and phone number to call.

Oak Ridge North police said they launched an investigation after the sticker was brought to their attention.

KPRC Local 2 investigator Robert Arnold called the phone number written on the sticker. He got a woman's voicemail.

"Hi, you've reached the desk of Miss Daniels here at the Harris County Clerk's Office. I've either stepped away from my desk or I'm on another call," was heard on the voicemail.

Police said they called the same number and spoke to someone.

"She was asked if she was with the Harris County Clerk's Office," an Oak Ridge North spokeswoman said. "She just said that she was Miss Daniels."

Detectives said they are working to determine who is registered to the phone number.

Officials at the Harris County Clerk's Office said the sticker is definitely not from their office.

If you find the sticker on your door, call your local law enforcement agency or the Harris County Clerk's Office to report it.
