1 shot at NW Houston park, suspect turns self in

HOUSTON – Houston police are investigating a shooting at Carverdale Park near the intersection of Porto Rico Road and Sweet Bay Lane.

Officer Larry Crowson said a person was shot inside the park at about 6:50 p.m.

A witness, who did not want to reveal her identity on camera, told KPRC in Spanish that she was at the park with her children when two groups of men started exchanging gunfire. The mother said she heard a number of gunshots and could feel the bullets whizzing past her.

The woman said there were dozens of children playing at the park when the shooting took place.

Crowson said the victim walked a half-mile to the police substation on Teague Road and was transported from there to a hospital.

An officer at the scene of the shooting told KPRC a suspect turned himself in to police.
