Man shot to death at Crosby Park, authorities say

HOUSTON – The family of 46-year-old Carlton Griffin gathered at Crosby Park Friday.

They say he was shot dead and his sister could not understand why.

"It hurts so bad. I don't even know what to say no more. That was my baby brother and it just hurts me. It hurts me so bad," Therissia Griffin said.

The family said he went to the park to approach a man they say came to his home earlier in the day and pulled a gun.

His family said he found the man at the park and they got into a fight. During the fight Carlton was killed and his step-son, Leonard Taylor, 17,  was shot and injured.

Family members said Carlton was the glue that held the family together.

"This is really heartbreaking to me. It hurts so deeply I can't even cry. I'm crying on the inside," Debra Moore said.

Deputies determined the shooting was related to an earlier incident. Witnesses told police they saw two men leave the scene on foot. The Harris County Sheriff's Office is investigating the shooting. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Homicide Unit at 713-274-9100 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS
