HOUSTON – Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson have been friends for nearly 30 years, so at this point, they pretty much know each other’s quirks, habits and questionable decisions.
But what if they also shared the same dad?

That’s the hilarious question at the center of “Brothers,” the new Apple TV+ comedy starring the longtime friends as fictionalized versions of themselves. The eight-episode series premiered September 23, with new episodes dropping Wednesdays through November 4.
The story begins when Woody’s daughter’s engagement falls apart and he packs up the family and heads to Austin for an extended stay at Matthew’s ranch.
Matthew’s mom, Ma Mac — played by Holland Taylor — accidentally drops a bombshell: Matthew and Woody might actually be brothers. Naturally, Woody becomes determined to get to the bottom of it, turning Matthew’s ranch into something of a family investigation headquarters. Meanwhile, Matthew has his own identity crisis to deal with as he considers a potential run for governor of Texas.
The idea was inspired by a real-life family story involving McConaughey’s mother and Harrelson’s father. The actors have joked about the possibility over the years, and now they’ve turned that bizarre bit of real-life history into an eight-episode comedy.
Whether they’re actually related or not, one thing is pretty clear: McConaughey and Harrelson have a chemistry that’s hard to fake.
“Brothers” is streaming now on Apple TV+, with new episodes dropping every Wednesday.
