HOUSTON – On Friday, Houston Stand Down will be holding its annual event focusing on serving those who served.
The event, which is put on by Career Gear Houston, targets veterans of all backgrounds, with a focus on providing various services to support them in their personal and professional lives. Veterans will have access to several supportive services from participating organizations focused on helping veterans.

The organizations come from a variety of sectors, including “veteran-service organizations, public agencies, education and workforce partners, healthcare providers, employers, nonprofit organizations, volunteers, and community supporters,” according to organizers.
In a statement, Chris Fahey, the event co-chair, describes Friday’s event as one that is targeting “veterans wherever they are in life and connecting them with meaningful opportunities.”
He goes on to add, “Whether a veteran is exploring a new career, pursuing a degree or trying to overcome homelessness or substance use … Houston Stand Down brings those resources together in one place.”
This is the 33rd year of the event, which will be held at 170 Heights Boulevard from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Veterans will have access to the following services and resources:
- VA benefits assistance
- Housing and rapid-rehousing resources
- Homebuying and homeownership information
- Employment, career, and workforce-development support
- Education and advanced-degree guidance
- Health, wellness, and mental-health resources
- Basic-needs assistance
- Professional clothing and career-readiness support
- Community referrals and connections
- Additional veteran-focused services
