HOUSTON – Whether you love a great Shakespeare play or are looking to spend the rest of the summer days with your family, the University of Houston School of Dance and Theater is returning to the Miller Outdoor Theatre stage with “The Comedy of Errors” and “The Tempest” at this year’s Houston Shakespeare Festival.
The Miller Outdoor Theatre is the perfect setting with its outdoor stage and open hills. Houstonians can sit under the vast sky and watch the festival’s performances just like in Shakespearean days.
Since 1975, UH School of Dance and Theater has entertained audiences with classic tales — and this year is a little different.
The beloved character Prospero has been reimagined as a powerful sorceress named Prospera. Veteran actor Laure Frye, with credits from Houston and New York City, takes on the new role with her fresh take.
Plus, if you arrive 30 minutes before the performance, you’ll experience the festival’s version of Bard Talk. So bring a blanket and enjoy the shows from tomorrow, July 30, through Aug. 8.
- “The Tempest” performs July 30 and Aug. 1, 3, 5 and 7
- “The Comedy of Errors” performs July 31 and Aug. 4, 6 and 8
- Performance begins at 8:15 p.m.
- Bard Talk begins at 7:45 p.m.
- Hermann Park’s Miller Outdoor Theatre (6000 Hermann Park Drive)
