HOUSTON – Celebrate Art House Theater Day next Thursday, June 30.
Founded in 2016, by Art House Convergence in Chicago, the annual event highlights indie theaters that champion films meant to provoke, challenge, entertain and inspire. This nationwide movement has grown to include 136 participating art houses — including Houston.
Black Cinema Club HTX and Houston Cinema Arts Society are teaming up with the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston to mark the day with a screening of the 1976 cult-classic comedy “Car Wash,” presented in a 4K restoration. The screening begins at 7 p.m. with an introduction by Houston film writer Craig D. Lindsey.
Before the movie, attendees can kick off the night with a pre-screening reception from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at Mo’ Brunch and Brews, 1201 Southmore Blvd. The reception includes a vinyl swap with collectors and DJs, including DJ Good Grief, Daniel Jackson of Good Junk Vintage and DJ Elevates (aka The Wizard).
Tickets are $9 general admission and $7 for members, students and seniors. Find event details and tickets here.
