HOUSTON – Break out the big hats and get ready to celebrate—Derby Day is off to the races at Sam Houston Race Park!
One of the most anticipated racing celebrations of the year is bringing a full day of excitement, style, and nonstop entertainment to Houston, and it’s the perfect outing for friends, families, and racing fans alike.
The gates open bright and early at 8:30 a.m., with the first live quarter horse race hitting the track at 10:30 a.m. From there, the energy only builds as the day unfolds with thrilling races, festive traditions, and plenty of chances to cheer on your favorites.
Guests are encouraged to come dressed in their Derby best, and you can even join the Hat Contest, with registration running from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Between races, keep the party going with live music from 2 to 4:30 p.m., and then again from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in the Rose Wine Garden in the infield. Add in great food, refreshing drinks, and a vibrant crowd, and you’ve got a full-on festival atmosphere that lasts all day long.
The 152nd running of the Kentucky Derby, set to begin around 5:59 p.m.
Fans can also shop official Derby merchandise, including shirts, hats, and collectible Mint Julep glasses, available throughout the venue. And if you’re planning to place a wager, keep in mind that betting is available for guests 21 and over, with all wagers placed in cash at designated betting stations.
