Houston – If your energy bills have you doing a double take every month, your windows might be the reason. And if there’s one room in the house that never seems to cool down, that could be another clue.
On Houston Life, David Mallette, owner of The Window Source of Houston, explained how upgrading your windows can make a big difference before the scorching Texas heat sets in.
For many homeowners, replacing windows can be a game-changer.

One common issue in older homes is heat coming directly through the glass. Builder grade windows often have single strength glass without protective coatings, which allows heat and UV rays to pass through.
Modern replacement windows are designed differently.
According to Mallette, every replacement window they install has a low-E coating that knocks out about 95 percent of UV rays, stating that “when you stand next to the window, you’re not going to feel that heat like you used to.”
That difference can be especially noticeable in Houston, where sunlight and high temperatures can make certain rooms feel like they’re radiating heat.
Homeowners may also be surprised to learn that window replacement projects often move faster than they expect. While the manufacturing process can take a couple of weeks, the installation itself is usually much quicker.
“Typically we receive the windows in about two to three weeks,” Mallette said. “Once they arrive and we check everything, we schedule installation. Depending on the home, our crews can usually complete the job in a day or two.”
Today’s vinyl windows have also come a long way from earlier versions that many homeowners remember. Modern materials include built-in UV protection and are designed to hold up well in Houston’s climate.
For Mallet, quality installation is just as important as the window itself.
“We take a lot of pride in the installation process, from protecting floors and furniture to using the best sealants possible.”
Mallette, a former Marine, says his military background also shapes how he runs his business. The focus is on honesty, fairness, and making sure customers receive a high quality product at a fair price.
If homeowners are considering an upgrade, there may also be some seasonal savings available. The company is currently offering a March Rodeo promotion that includes $200 off each window and $500 off exterior doors, along with a “peace and quiet” package designed to reduce outside noise.
